The Tamil novel Gopalapurathu Makkal by Ki. Rajanarayanan has been released in English as "People of Gopallapuram", translated by Shubashree Desikan. Ki. Rajanarayanan (1923-2021), known as Ki.Ra., was a celebrated Tamil writer and a pioneer of karisal (black soil region) literature. Writing in a simple, local idiom, he portrayed rural life, folk culture, agriculture and the traditions of southern Tamil Nadu, and recorded oral tales and village dialects. The translation brings his work to a wider English readership.
