A pair of peacocks was seen at roughly 6,000 feet near Manali in Himachal Pradesh, an unusually high altitude for the bird. The Indian or Blue Peacock (Pavo cristatus), India's National Bird, belongs to the pheasant family Phasianidae. It normally lives in warm forests, grasslands and farmland in plains and low hills below about 1,000-1,500 metres. The IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
