NTCA Roadmap: Two-Thirds of India's Tiger Reserves Have Declining Prey Base or Poor Habitat

Save

The NTCA's 'Roadmap for Active Management of Tigers in India', based on the 2022 All India Tiger Estimation, found that 38 of India's 58 tiger reserves have a declining prey base, poor habitat, or both.

Only 20 reserves have both adequate prey and good habitat; 36 face prey shortages and 17 have both problems. Nine have zero or critically low resident tigers and 25 show declining numbers. Of 3,682 tigers, 2,338 live inside reserves and 1,344 outside. It recommends habitat and prey recovery, anti-poaching, invasive-species removal and corridor protection.
