The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) will use Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, satellite remote sensing and ocean modelling to track marine litter hotspots. The pilot started in Visakhapatnam on September 19, 2026, under the National Initiative for Remediation of Marine Litter (NIRMaL Sāgar). It seeks to find litter sources, follow its movement and locate accumulation zones, building an integrated tracking framework with Visakhapatnam as the testbed. INCOIS, based in Hyderabad, functions under the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
