The National Highways Authority of India started the country's first Bee Corridors initiative to create pollinator-friendly green belts along highways. Native nectar-bearing trees such as Neem, Karanj, Mahua, Palash, Jamun and Siris will be planted. Of the 40 lakh trees NHAI plans to plant in 2026-27, 60 per cent will fall under this initiative, which aims to aid pollination, enrich biodiversity and make road infrastructure more sustainable.
