A stretch of National Highway 44 in Tamil Nadu has been painted red for the first time to improve road safety and visibility for motorists. The red markings have been laid on the Thoppur Ghat Road, an accident-prone section where more than 200 people have died in the last three years. The bright colour is meant to alert drivers to slow down on the dangerous stretch.
