Mesalina bishnoi, a newly identified lizard species of the genus Mesalina, has been recorded in India for the first time. It was found in an open semi-desert habitat near Gajner in Bikaner district, Rajasthan. The species has been named after the Bishnoi community to honour its long tradition of protecting wildlife and nature. The record adds to India's documented reptile diversity in arid and semi-arid ecosystems of the Thar region.
