Researchers have discovered Gegeneophis chandgadi, a new species of caecilian, or legless amphibian, in Buzawade village of Kolhapur district in Maharashtra. It belongs to the genus Gegeneophis. The species takes its name from Chandgadi, a dialect of Marathi spoken in the area where it was found. Caecilians are limbless, burrowing amphibians that resemble earthworms or snakes and are rarely seen.
