Save

Scientists have described a new species of blind, blood-red eel, Rakthamichthys anchi, from underground aquifers linked to dug-out wells in Goalpara district, Assam.

The species belongs to the genus Rakthamichthys, a group of subterranean swamp eels found only in India. The discovery adds to the little-known groundwater fauna of the country.
