NavIC Hit as Atomic Clock Fails on IRNSS-1F; Functional Satellites Drop to Three

Save

The atomic clock on board the IRNSS-1F satellite has failed, affecting NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation), India's indigenous regional navigation system developed by ISRO. Atomic clocks are vital for precise positioning, navigation and timing services. After this failure, NavIC has only three functional satellites, below the minimum of four needed. ISRO intends to fit indigenous rubidium atomic clocks in future replacement satellites to strengthen the system.
