NATO started the 'Arctic Sentry' mission to bolster Arctic security following tensions over Greenland. It brings the Arctic military activities of member nations under one command, with Denmark, Germany, Finland and the United Kingdom among those contributing forces and defence support. The mission responds to Russia's military activity and China's rising interest in the region, and members are discussing deeper cooperation and a permanent Arctic security presence.
