The Sangtam tribal body of Nagaland adopted a resolution against hunting and trading pangolins in Kiphire and Tuensang districts, near the India-Myanmar border, a known wildlife-trafficking route. Pangolins are the world's most trafficked mammals, sought for scales and meat. Northeast India hosts the Indian pangolin (Endangered) and the Chinese pangolin (Critically Endangered) on the IUCN Red List, and all eight species are in CITES Appendix I. The effort supports the Wildlife Trust of India's Countering Pangolin Trafficking Project.
