Save

The Chief Minister of Sikkim released Chocolate Mahseer fish into the Rangeet River as part of efforts to conserve native fish species. The Chocolate Mahseer (Neolissochilus hexagonolepis), also known as copper mahseer, is a freshwater fish of the family Cyprinidae and is called ‘Kha Saw’ locally in Meghalaya. It is the state fish of both Meghalaya and Sikkim and inhabits rivers and hill streams throughout the Northeast. The Rangeet, which rises in the Himalayan region of Sikkim, is a major tributary of the Teesta and flows through Sikkim and West Bengal.
