Tamil Nadu has opened its first 'Dark Sky Park' in the Kolli Hills. The park is meant to promote astro-tourism and protect the visibility of the night sky. By cutting down light pollution, it also aims to spread scientific awareness about astronomy among visitors and students. Dark Sky Parks are designated areas where natural darkness is preserved so that people can stargaze and scientists can carry out research.
