Two new State Information Commissioners have joined the Tamil Nadu Information Commission: Atulya Misra, a retired IAS officer, and Abhay Kumar Singh, a retired IPS officer. The State government had, in December last year, expanded the Commission's strength, raising the count of State Information Commissioners to eight from six. The Commission handles appeals and complaints filed under the Right to Information Act, 2005. With these appointments, the Commission moves towards its enlarged strength, and the additions are expected to help clear pending RTI cases in Tamil Nadu more quickly.
