Jharkhand's Palamu Tiger Reserve launched 'Vanjeevi Didi' on 17 February 2026 in the Garu range to involve communities in wildlife protection. Educated women from 17 villages, 18 from each, will serve as forest ambassadors spreading awareness against poaching and deforestation, each receiving ₹3,000 a month. The reserve is part of Project Tiger, launched in 1973. Separately, Galapagos National Park released 158 hybrid giant tortoises on Floreana Island carrying DNA of the extinct Chelonoidis niger.
