Over two days, the Tamil Nadu Forest Department conducted a synchronised census of terrestrial birds in the central part of the State, spanning the districts of Tiruchi and Pudukottai. Apart from daytime species, the exercise also included a count of nocturnal terrestrial birds. The census was designed to document which bird species are present in the region, examine their diversity and the habitats they rely on, and generate data that can guide conservation efforts. Being synchronised, the counting across both districts was carried out over the same two-day period.
