The Supreme Court stayed an interim order of the Madras High Court on the appointment of Vice-Chancellors to Tamil Nadu State universities. The High Court had earlier suspended an amended provision that let the State government appoint Vice-Chancellors. The apex court said the State must get a fair chance to present its case, and asked the High Court to decide the matter within six weeks.
