In its 2026-27 State Budget, the Kerala government announced free education up to graduation for Arts and Science students in government and aided colleges. Until now, free education in the State was limited to Class 12, so this is the first time Kerala has taken it beyond the higher secondary stage. The move is intended to widen access to higher education and ease the financial burden on students and their families.
