A model of the Danish frigate 'Elephant', which arrived at Tharangambadi in Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu, in 1620, has been gifted to the Tranquebar Maritime Museum. The ship belonged to a fleet of two warships and three merchant vessels sent to build trade ties with South Asia. Led by Admiral Ove Gedde, the expedition reached Tharangambadi on 13 September 1620; Gedde later concluded a treaty with the Naik of Thanjavur and began building Fort Dansborg. The model was crafted by Denmark's Koge Maritime Model Builders' Guild and donated by the Danish Tranquebar Association.
