Migratory griffon vultures were sighted in Maharashtra's Melghat and Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserves after almost ten years: a Himalayan Griffon (Near Threatened) at Melghat and a Eurasian Griffon (Least Concern) at Tadoba. The State Forest Department and the Bombay Natural History Society run a Vulture Conservation Breeding Centre programme, and in January 2026 captive-bred long-billed vultures fitted with GSM and satellite transmitters were released into the wild.
