In October 2026, MeitY began implementing NSAM 2.0, the second edition of the National Strategy for Additive Manufacturing first introduced in 2022. Additive manufacturing (3D printing) builds objects layer by layer from a digital design, wasting less material. The 2022 plan aimed for a 5% global market share, a US$1 billion GDP contribution, 50 technologies, 100 startups and 500 products. So far, over 1.54 lakh people have been trained, 56 startups funded and 65 indigenous technologies developed through seven national centres. The new phase stresses domestic patents, home-grown materials and machines, shared low-cost facilities for MSMEs and 3D-printed electronics.
