The US state of Massachusetts has declared 15 August 2026 as India Day, through a proclamation signed by Governor Maura Healey on 1 August 2026 to mark India's 79th Independence anniversary. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu issued a similar declaration for the city and welcomed the opening of the new Indian Consulate in Boston. The proclamation noted the Indian diaspora of over 5 million in the US and referred to the visit of INS Sudarshini, an Indian Navy sail training ship, to Boston for the SAILBOSTON-250 event. Massachusetts had made a similar declaration in 2025.
