The Government of Tamil Nadu has appointed Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal as the State's Director General of Police (DGP) and Head of the Police Force (HoPF). He takes over from Sandeep Rai Rathore, the previous incumbent. The HoPF is the senior-most officer who leads the State police establishment and is responsible for law and order across Tamil Nadu. Appointments to key State posts such as the DGP are frequently asked in TNPSC Group examinations under Tamil Nadu current affairs.
