Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary, a Ramsar wetland in Jamnagar district, Gujarat, has been identified as a major breeding site for the Black-necked Stork, listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List. Surveys from July 2024 to March 2025 recorded a peak of 21–23 storks. Four active nests produced eight young during the October–December breeding season. All nests were built on Neltuma juliflora, an invasive tree known locally as gando baval.
