Nepal's Kami Rita Sherpa reached the summit of Mount Everest for the 32nd time, extending his own record for the most Everest ascents. His first climb of the world's highest peak was in 1994.
In the same season, Lhakpa Sherpa bettered her own record among women by completing her 11th Everest summit. She had earlier, in 2000, become the first Nepali woman to climb Everest and descend successfully.
