International Widows' Day is observed every year on 23 June to draw attention to the difficulties faced by widows across the world and to promote their rights.
Widows in many countries face poverty, social exclusion, loss of property and discrimination after the death of a spouse. The day calls on governments and communities to protect their rights and improve their living conditions. The theme for 2026 is "Invisible Women, Invisible Problems".
