April 21, 2026, marked the first-ever global celebration of the International Day of Women in Industry (IDWI). Proclaimed by the UNIDO during its 21st General Conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the day recognizes women as strategic drivers of inclusive industrialization.
2026 Theme: Celebrating Women's Leadership
The inaugural theme is βCelebrating Women's Leadership in Industrial Development.β It highlights the critical need to bridge gender gaps in sectors traditionally dominated by men, such as manufacturing, clean energy, and AI/Digital technology.
Key Objective
The goal is to move from token representation to meaningful leadership for women at all levels of the industrial value chain. For TNPSC and Social Issues aspirants, this marks a new addition to the global calendar of 'Women Empowerment' and 'Economic Growth.'
