India's pharmaceutical industry is shifting its focus towards complex generics, biosimilars and innovation. The country ranks 11th in pharmaceutical exports by value with a 3% global share and third by volume, meeting around 20% of global demand for generics and shipping to 191 countries in FY25, more than half to strictly regulated markets like the US and Europe. India also supplies most of the world's DPT, BCG and measles vaccines, while its medical devices sector exported to 187 countries in FY25.
