India plans to expand its inter-regional transmission capacity from about 120 gigawatts (GW) in 2025 to 143 GW by 2027 and 168 GW by 2032, under the National Electricity Plan (NEP). The aim is a stronger national grid, smoother inter-regional power flow and better integration of renewable energy. Peak electricity demand is expected to touch around 388 GW by 2032. The plan also targets 6.48 lakh circuit kilometres (ckm) of transmission lines and 2,345 GVA of transformation capacity.
