India has expanded its Doppler Weather Radar network to 50 units by 2026, up from 14 in 2014, a rise of more than 250%. The radars now cover about 87% of the country, improving prediction of cyclones, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms and strengthening disaster preparedness. The network is operated by the India Meteorological Department under Mission Mausam, and around 50 more radars are planned to further improve early warning and weather services.
