India's installed data-centre capacity stood at 1.57 GW as of August 2026, up from about 375 MW in 2020, driven by cloud computing, AI and digital services, and is projected to approach 8 GW by 2030. Around USD 70 billion is already being invested, with USD 90 billion more in announced projects. The National Informatics Centre (NIC) runs National Data Centres in Delhi, Pune, Hyderabad and Bhubaneswar plus 37 smaller centres. Electricity demand from data centres could touch 17 GW by 2031–32, raising the focus on renewables and efficient cooling.
