In a public poll conducted by the Forest Department, the Indian Grey Hornbill was selected as the 'Bird of Tirupattur' district. The exercise aimed to make students and young people more aware of biodiversity and forest conservation. The district has a sizeable population of the bird in the Ambur and Singarapettai forest ranges and the Yelagiri Hills. The Indian Grey Hornbill (Ocyceros birostris) is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
