In 2025 India ranked second outside the United States for LEED-certified building space with 16 million gross square metres, behind China's 26 million GSM. The US leads overall with more than 50 million GSM. India recorded stronger growth in LEED Operations and Maintenance certifications, which focus on improving existing buildings. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is run by the US Green Building Council.
