The Ministry of Communications launched India's indigenous Cell Broadcast System (CBS) with its first large-scale nationwide demonstration. CBS pushes geo-targeted emergency alerts to millions of phones simultaneously, needing no phone numbers, internet, apps or registration. Integrated with SACHET, the National Disaster Alert Platform, it can warn of floods, tsunamis, gas leaks and other emergencies. C-DOT developed it with DoT, NDMA and the Ministry of Home Affairs. India joins over 30 countries using CBS, such as Japan's J-Alert and the US Wireless Emergency Alerts.
