India's first open-sea fish farming project began in the Andaman Sea near North Bay, Sri Vijaya Puram. The Ministry of Earth Sciences and the National Institute of Ocean Technology are running it with sea cages designed in India, for marine fish and deep-water seaweed. The pilot will test whether the model works before it is expanded through public-private partnerships. It supports coastal jobs, food security and India's blue economy.
