India hosted an Asia-Pacific Forum on advancing geospatial systems for sustainable development. Geospatial systems combine tools such as GIS, GPS, remote sensing, drones and LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), and are used in urban planning, infrastructure, disaster management and internal security. Globally, policy is shaped by the UN Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) under the UN Economic and Social Council. India's own initiatives include the National Geospatial Policy 2022 and the National Geospatial Mission (2025-26). eLoc, the National Digital Address System, assigns a unique six-character digital address to every location in India.
