India Develops First Germanium-Free Thermal Drone Payload 'Lumira_E40I50'

Hyderabad-based deep-tech startup Eon Space Labs has unveiled Lumira_E40I50, Indiaโ€™s first germanium-free thermal imaging payload for drones. Traditional thermal cameras rely on germanium, a rare metal with volatile global supply chains. This indigenous development replaces it with chalcogenide glass, ensuring supply chain security and cost-efficiency.


Technical Capabilities:


  • Detection Range: Can detect humans from 2 km and vehicles from 8 km using integrated AI.

  • Lightweight Design: The payload is significantly lighter (800g to 2.2kg), extending drone flight times.

  • Military Grade: Meets MIL-STD-810H standards for toughness in extreme environmental conditions.
