India is in discussions with China on opening an extra route for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra via Shipki La Pass in Himachal Pradesh. The pilgrimage currently uses Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand and Nathu La in Sikkim. The 2025 yatra ran from June to August in coordination with State governments and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police. China has cited logistical difficulties in opening new corridors.
