India Developing Three Types of Small Modular Reactors to Boost Nuclear Capacity

Save
India is working on three kinds of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) to expand its nuclear power capacity and meet clean energy goals. SMRs are compact, advanced reactors that generate up to 300 megawatt electric per module. The three designs are the Bharat Small Modular Reactor, the SMR-55, and a high temperature gas cooled reactor meant for both power and hydrogen production. They rely on technologies such as pressurised water reactors and slightly enriched uranium fuel. SMRs are considered safer, modular and cost-effective, and help lower carbon emissions.
