India has approved Qdenga, also called TAK-003, a tetravalent vaccine against dengue. Being tetravalent, the vaccine is designed to protect against all four types of the dengue virus rather than only one of them.
The approval allows the vaccine to be used for people aged between 4 and 60 years. Since dengue causes seasonal outbreaks in many Indian states, a vaccine that covers every virus type gives the country an important new preventive tool in its public health efforts.
