The Tamil Nadu government has given in-principle approval to build a new Assembly-Secretariat complex at Pattinapakkam (Foreshore Estate) in Chennai. It will come up on 25.55 acres of land belonging to the Tamil Nadu Housing Board, Greater Chennai Corporation and the Revenue Department. The complex will have a built-up area of about 20 lakh sq. ft. at an estimated cost of ₹1,200 crore. The Public Works Department has been asked to prepare a Detailed Project Report within three months. The Assembly and Secretariat currently function from the historic Fort St. George campus.
