UNIDO GEM Award: Empowering Women in Waste Management
The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) has won the 4th Gender Equality Mobilisation (GEM) Award in 2026, presented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Vienna. The award recognizes GMC's revolutionary approach to sustainable urban sanitation and gender equity.
Award-Winning Project
- Electric Auto Initiative: GMC deployed over 200 women as electric auto drivers for door-to-door waste collection.
- Sustainable Cities: The project is part of the Sustainable Cities Integrated Approach Pilot (SCIAP), focusing on zero-emission logistics for waste management.
