Dr. Gunther von Hagens, who invented the technique of plastination and created the BODY WORLDS exhibitions, passed away on 24 July 2026 at the age of 81.
Plastination is a preservation method in which the fluids and fats of a body are replaced with polymers. The process allows anatomical specimens to be kept for long periods for study and public display, and has been widely used in medical education.
