The Geological Survey of India has declared Kalinjar Hill a National Geo-Heritage Site.
- Located in the Vindhya Range, it displays the rare Eparchaean Unconformity, where rock layers of very different ages meet.
- 2.5-billion-year-old Bundelkhand granite lies beneath 1.2-billion-year-old Kaimur sandstone, offering clues to Earth's early history.
- Kalinjar Fort used the rocky terrain for natural defence and was built from local stone, showing a geo-cultural link.
- The site also holds religious value, including the Neelkanth Mahadev Temple tied to the Samudra Manthan legend, and finds mention in Buddhist texts.
