The Greater Chennai Corporation presented a budget of ₹9,319 crore for 2026-27. Capital expenditure fell to ₹2,754 crore from ₹3,191 crore in 2025-26, as major flood-mitigation works have been completed. Revenue expenditure is estimated at ₹6,146 crore and loan repayment at ₹111 crore. The deficit widened sharply from ₹378 crore to ₹1,602 crore. Part of the funding comes from external lenders such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Germany's development bank KfW.
