Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi have developed India's first functional indigenous micro-GPU. A Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) is a processor designed to handle images and graphics, and building one domestically is a step towards self-reliance in chip design. The working prototype demonstrates that Indian institutions can design such specialised processors at home rather than depend entirely on imported hardware. Exam points: institution – IIT Delhi; product – micro-GPU; distinction – India's first working indigenous one; use – processing images and graphics.
