The Government of India has launched a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that connects Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools with the e-Sankhyiki portal, giving them real-time access to official statistics. MCP is an open-source standard introduced by Anthropic in 2024 that lets AI models link securely to external data sources, which helps improve the accuracy of their responses. The step allows AI systems to work directly with authentic government data from the official statistics portal.
