Gujarat has started India's first state-level Sports Genomics Programme through the Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre (GBRC). It will examine genetic and biological factors linked to athletes' strength, endurance, recovery and injury risk. The State plans to gather 2,000 samples a year and nearly 10,000 over five years, building the Gujarat Athlete Genome Database (G-AGD). The programme will aid scientific talent identification and personalised training, nutrition and recovery plans.
