The Forest Survey of India (FSI), which functions under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, has not issued any alerts from its Anavaran deforestation system since early 2026. Anavaran is an AI-based platform that spots forest loss from satellite data. Launched in January 2024, it was designed to send near real-time deforestation alerts to State Forest Departments every 15 days. The system applies machine learning to imagery from the European Space Agency's Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 satellites, detecting changes in forest cover at a resolution of 10–20 metres.
